Research into courses

Access to HE West Kent College 

Access to Higher education are a well-established set of qualifications that are designed for people that want to attend university but either don’t have the qualifications needed or have been outside of education for a long time. It is designed for people that have a lot of life experience and a willingness to learn new skills in an educational facility. The participants accumulate credits throughout the course, which end up with the access diploma, which is awarded by Laser. 

The courses are designed for mature students (19+) so they can be tailored to the older audience, which will allow for more adult content. The classes are quite small which means we can include a lot of people in the film. 

The course’s content will prepare students for a wide range of different courses as it develops skills in literacy, numeracy, IT, research and study skills, which amount to qualifications equivalent to A levels. Students from these courses. 

Because this is a completely academic course, there will be very little practical lessons which might make the content from this part of filming very boring. What I would focus on this them doing mathematics and IT because there won’t be much of that at other points in the video, so it will give some diversity.

Floristry Hadlow College 

The floristry courses will give participants the opportunity to explore their creative side using practical skills as well as take part in competitions including the Chelsea flower show. They learn how to maximise the use of flowers and understand the significance of many floristry designs. 

The course tries to prepare students for a career in the floristry sector, which could include floral design, but might also be buying and selling, event management and the selling of related products. 

I think footage of the students doing their floral arranging would be interesting, but it will have to cut fast to make it more interesting and get as many students included in the bit of footage as possible. It would also be interesting to include footage from their flower shows.
